Home Remedies For Cold and Flu Remedies For Kids

4 week health and fitness programme

When it comes to cold and flu remedies for kids, there are a number of options. Home remedies for stuffy nose can include gargling with salt water, Nasal saline drops, Vitamin C, and avoiding cigarette smoke. If symptoms persist after 3 days, you may need to see a doctor. Symptoms of a cold or flu may be related to a child's lifestyle, such as smoking or exposure to a lot of dust or pollen.

Home remedies to a stuffy, stuffy nose

Home remedies for the flu and cold for children are a good option if your child has a stuffy or stuffy nose. Children under the age of 6 may not be able to take over-the–counter medication for cough. Drying out the nasal passages may make the condition worse. You can encourage your child, instead of drying out their nasal passages, to drink plenty and lots of water. You can also make 100% fruit popsicles or purchase them from the grocery store. These may be more popular than water for your child, so it is important to stay away from products containing caffeine.

Gargling using salt water

The use of salt water gargling has been around for centuries. A study of 400 people concluded that salt water gargling was 40 percent less likely to cause upper respiratory tract problems. Gargling salt water with saline pulls fluid from inflamed tissue, which causes mucus to be loosen and flushes out other irritants. Gargling with salt water is recommended by the Mayo Clinic and should be done for about three seconds.

Nasal saline drops

Children who are sick with the common cold, respiratory infections, or congestion may experience congestion. These congestion can be relieved using nasal sprays and drops. These remedies can reduce swelling and thin the mucus, which can make breathing easier for children. Because they do not contain any medications, they are recommended by pediatricians for children and infants. You can learn more about how to apply these drops onto your child's nostrils.

Vitamin C

Although vitamin C has been promoted as a treatment for the common flu, evidence is lacking to support its therapeutic use. While a prophylactic dose of vitamin C, as a preventive measure, might be effective in reducing cold symptoms, the benefits for children are not clear. It will take more research to determine the right dose and when to start supplementation. The benefits of prophylactic Vitamin C are greater than those experienced with therapeutic doses.

Echinacea

Echinacea is a great choice for parents looking for natural flu and cold remedies for their children. This perennial flowering plant is also known as coneflower and has brightly colored blossoms around a spiky seedhead, which can be red or violet. There are many varieties of Echinacea. Their medicinal properties can differ. The complex mixture of active components in this herb includes phenols. These compounds control enzymes.

FAQ

Exercise: Good or Bad for Immunity?

Exercise is good for your immune system. Exercise boosts the production of white blood cells, which can fight off infections. Your body also removes toxins. Exercise can help prevent heart disease and cancer. Exercise also helps to reduce stress levels.

However, overtraining can damage your immune system. When you exercise too hard, your muscles will become sore. This causes inflammation, swelling, and can even lead to death. Your body will then produce more antibodies in order to fight infections. These extra antibodies can lead to allergies or autoimmune disorders.

So, don't overdo it!

How To

Ten tips for a healthy lifestyle

How to live a healthy life

Our fast-paced world means that we aren't getting enough sleep, don't eat enough, drink too much alcohol, and smoke too many cigarettes. We don’t take proper care of our bodies.

When you work full-time, it is difficult to maintain a healthy diet and exercise program. It is even more difficult if you feel stressed. Then, your mind tells yourself that it cannot handle this situation any more so we feel guilty about it and give up.

If your body feels ill, it most likely is. You should see a doctor and ask him/her what he/she thinks about your current condition. If there is nothing abnormal, then it might just be stress from your job.

Some people think they're lucky because their jobs let them go to the gym on a regular basis or they have friends who help them stay fit. These people are truly lucky. These people don't have any difficulties. They control everything. I wish everyone could become like them. Unfortunately, many of us don’t know how to manage our personal and work lives. Many people end up with bad habits which eventually lead to diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer and many others.

These tips can help you improve the quality of your life.

  1. Get adequate sleep - 7 hours a day minimum, 8 hours maximum. It includes sleeping in the correct positions and avoiding caffeine before bed. Caffeine blocks the melatonin hormones making it hard to fall asleep. Your bedroom should be darkened and cleaned. Consider using blackout curtains, especially if working late at night.
  2. Eat healthy. Have breakfast every morning. Avoid sugary foods, fried foods, processed foods, and white breads. For lunch, try to include fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Afternoon snacks are recommended to be rich in protein and fiber, such as nuts, seeds, beans, fish and dairy products. Avoid unhealthy snacks like chips, candies, cookies, cakes and sodas.
  3. Drink plenty of water - Most of us don' t drink enough water. Water aids in weight loss, skin health, digestion, and keeps our skin young and supple. Drinking six glasses of water daily will help you lose weight faster. Checking the color of urine is a good way to gauge your hydration. Dehydrated means yellow; slightly dehydrated means orange; normal means pink; overhydrated means red; clear means highly-overhydrated.
  4. Regular exercise can increase energy and decrease depression. Walking can be a great way to improve your mood. Although walking may seem simple, it is not easy. It requires concentration and effort. Your brain must focus on walking and breathe slowly and deeply. A 30-minute walk for 100 to 150 calories can be burned in 30 minutes. Slowly build up and start slow. Stretching after exercise is important to avoid injury.
  5. Positive thinking is important for mental well-being. If we are positive, we create a happier environment in our minds. Negative thoughts can drain energy and cause anxiety. Try to visualize the things you are aiming to achieve. Break down the tasks into smaller steps if you feel overwhelmed by all the new tasks. Remember that you are bound to fail sometimes but just pick yourself up and start again.
  6. Say No. We can often be so busy that it is hard to see how much of our time we are wasting on useless tasks. It is important to be able to say No when needed. Saying 'no' does not mean being rude. A No means that you can't take care of something now. There will always be another way to finish the job. Be clear about your boundaries. Ask for help. Or simply delegate this work to someone else.
  7. Take care your body. Keep track of what you eat. You can boost your metabolism by eating healthier foods. You should avoid eating too many oily and heavy foods, as they tend to increase cholesterol. Three meals and two snacks are a good rule of thumb. Around 2000 to 2500 calories should be consumed each day.
  8. Meditate - Meditation can reduce stress and anxiety. Sitting still with closed eyes allows your mind to relax. This exercise will allow you to have clarity of thought which can be very useful in making decisions. Regular meditation practice will make you happier and calmer.
  9. Breakfast is the most important meal in the day. Skipping breakfast may lead to overeating during lunchtime. It is never too late to eat a balanced breakfast as long as you eat within 1 hour of waking. Breakfast boosts energy and helps to manage hunger.
  10. Healthy food is the best. Food can have a profound effect on our moods. Avoid junk food, artificial ingredients and foods that are high in preservatives. These products can cause acid reflux and increase cravings. Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals that improve overall health.
